3D Population density map of Sri Lanka in 2020

Here I have used QGIS and Aerialod software and data was taken from Worldpop.org. The height of the spikes related to the no. of people living in an area (1km * 1km).

Sri Lanka is home to just under 22 million people and according to World Bank’s article from 2013, “The #Colombo metropolitan region, the commercial and financial center of the country, is home to 28% of the country’s 20 million people and accounts for about 50% of gross domestic product.” It would mean that in the metro area live more than 6 million people – almost ten times more than in the city proper.

When consider about other areas, more spikes can be seen along the South west coastal line, Kandy, Jaffna peninsula, Batticaloa and Kurunegala.
